Who should you build first?
Start with the Fated Adventurer for flexibility, Luka for a ranged carry, Midori for a Fire-focused melee option, or Madelyn for broad support. This MH Outlanders tier list prioritizes early progression and useful squad roles. Arkaya is worth moving up your personal list when shields solve your biggest problem.
These are editorial launch recommendations, informed by official kits and early community coverage. They are not equal-investment damage tests. Elemental matchups, upgrades and how comfortably you execute a kit can change the order.
Why we recommend each Adventurer
A useful pick needs a job, a payoff and a tradeoff.
SFated Adventurer
Flexible / Multiple weapons
Keep the main character in your plans. Published launch coverage describes a flexible choice of weapon, element and class, which makes the Fated Adventurer a useful baseline before specializing.
Before you commit: A flexible kit still needs an appropriate weapon and investment. Compare at the same progression level; adaptability does not mean every loadout wins every matchup.
Fated Adventurer: team-building decisionsSMidori
Assault / Long Sword
Choose her for fire matchups and a reactive melee playstyle. Her faster Spirit Gauge generation rewards landing the right skills rather than repeating a long combo blindly.
Before you commit: Learn which approach leaves time to evade before committing to Spirit attacks. If you keep losing the gauge-building opportunity to dodges, a ranged carry may deliver steadier results.
Midori: mechanics and practice guideUse Rhodes when you want an Ice option and enjoy building energy through charged attacks. His explosion gives the resource loop a distinct payoff.
Before you commit: Confirm where the opening ends before starting a charge. His setup asks for more planning than an immediate ranged hit, so practice the energy conversion first.
Rhodes: Hammer playstyleAHaze
Support / Dual Blades
An appealing support for players comfortable tracking Demon Gauge. In Archdemon Mode, certain actions can parry or spend gauge on Crimson Fang Slash follow-ups.
Before you commit: Separate the defensive use of a parry from the offensive use of a follow-up. Do not drain the gauge simply because the follow-up is available.
Haze: compare support optionsBRyunosuke
Support / Long Sword
Consider him in a Fire-oriented squad. Eating in particular stances builds energy, and the Well-fed state makes Spirit Blade attacks stronger.
Before you commit: The setup is part of the cost. Learn the food-and-stance sequence outside a dangerous opening rather than trying to improvise it under pressure.
Ryunosuke: compare support optionsALuxheart
Disruptor / Great Sword
A practical Disruptor to consider if you prefer Great Sword. Heat changes his stances, and some moves release stored energy in a barrage.
Before you commit: Judge the stance you can actually use during the next opening. Holding energy for an ideal sequence is wasted value if the monster moves before it lands.
Luxheart: Great Sword playstyleBPyro
Assault / Great Sword
A situational carry for hunters who read incoming attacks well. His identity is enduring pressure and converting that exchange into powerful Great Sword blows.
Before you commit: Taking damage without a successful payoff is not a damage strategy. If you cannot identify the incoming move, choose a safer attack window rather than forcing the trade.
Pyro: team-building decisionsAKeres
Disruptor / Dual Blades
A strong candidate for a Dragon-focused setup. Rapid chains and enhanced follow-ups reward staying on a productive part of the monster rather than chasing every movement.
Before you commit: Before investing around Dragon synergy, check the target and the rest of your squad. A specialist can lose value when the matchup does not support the element.
Keres: team-building decisionsA practical carry to learn first if you prefer range. Thunder Coating and precise casts give you a clear improvement target: correct positioning and better timing.
Before you commit: Range does not remove stamina management. Compare him against a flexible Fated Adventurer on non-thunder matchups before spending scarce upgrades.
Luka: mechanics and practice guidePrioritize him when interrupted attacks or failed hunts are the problem. His attacks build Resolve; spending it can combine a powered strike with a large shield.
Before you commit: A shield is a window to act, not permission to ignore every attack. Compare shield uptime with the healing you give up by replacing Madelyn.
Arkaya: compare support optionsBRaya
Disruptor / Dual Blades
A workable Disruptor for players who enjoy fast close-range movement. Certain skills spend stamina to build her Demon Gauge faster.
Before you commit: Watch the resource you need to evade before accelerating the gauge. More gauge is not an improvement if the stamina cost leaves you unable to disengage.
Raya: Dual Blades playstyleBOuyang Varen
Assault / Lance
Choose him if a shield-led rhythm helps you keep contact with the monster. His guard tools and Impetus-powered thrusts offer a concrete loop to learn.
Before you commit: A successful guard and a productive counter are different things. Reposition after the block if the next thrust would hit an unhelpful part or miss.
Ouyang Varen: Lance playstyleA useful early support when survival and consistent damage matter together. Her Spores can deal damage and boost nearby allies, so positioning around the target matters.
Before you commit: Apply Spores before the damage window and check who is close enough to benefit. Do not evaluate her by personal damage alone.
Madelyn: compare support optionsAPepper
Disruptor / Heavy Bowgun
Consider Pepper when you want a ranged Disruptor and an airborne firing pattern. Her value depends on whether those firing windows stay productive against your target.
Before you commit: Being airborne is not a universal invulnerability rule. Old beta clips can overstate her current damage and safety; compare the live kit first.
Pepper: Heavy Bowgun playstyle How this tier list is made
Our ranking asks three practical questions: can the Adventurer do a useful job in early progression, how much setup does that job require, and how easily can the kit fit the squad you already own? We favor flexibility and repeatable value. We do not assign invented DPS scores.
What the tiers mean for your investment| Factor | How to apply it |
|---|
| Element and target | A Thunder or Fire specialist can move down when the hunt does not reward that element. |
| Personal execution | Missed counters, wasted gauges and interrupted charges can outweigh a theoretical damage advantage. |
| Squad contribution | Compare healing, shields and useful control alongside damage. A support does not need carry-level personal damage. |
| Investment | Do not assume an upgraded duplicate-dependent recommendation applies to a newly acquired copy. |
Why other lists disagree
Game8’s early-impression list places the Fated Adventurer, Midori and Arkaya at the top. Gacha.gg’s launch list gives Luka and Madelyn higher priority and discusses investment-dependent support value. That disagreement is useful: it changes whether your next upgrade should solve damage, survival or squad support.
Our class and weapon labels follow the official Adventurer profiles, which are the primary source for the 13 named kits shown there. The Fated Adventurer is covered in launch guides. Recommendations and practice drills are our own analysis; no first-hand playtesting is claimed. Read our editorial policy.
MH Outlanders tier list FAQ
Who is the best beginner character?
Use the Fated Adventurer as your flexible starting point. Luka is a good ranged carry to learn, while Madelyn is a broad support priority. If survival is stopping progress, consider Arkaya rather than adding another damage dealer.
Is a B-tier Adventurer worth using?
Yes. These tiers rank early investment priorities. Rhodes can fill an Ice need, Ryunosuke can fit a Fire squad, and a practiced Pyro player may get more value than a player who misses another carry’s key actions.
Are these launch or beta rankings?
This page was created on 30 October 2026, after the official 29 October launch date. It uses the current official profiles and early launch coverage. Community explanations can include beta observations; exact live damage and balance changes have not been independently tested here.
Does weapon type alone decide the best character?
No. Midori and Ryunosuke both use Long Sword but have different resource loops and squad jobs. Compare the Adventurer’s kit, the hunt and your investment before treating a weapon ranking as a character ranking.
Should I reroll for Midori?
Do not decide from a tier letter alone. Check the live banner, acquisition terms and account rules first. The flexible main character and early alternatives give you a way to progress while deciding whether a limited character fits your preferred playstyle.
